This sparked a life-long pursuit for Macklin to explore and discover the impact of music on humanity. \nMacklin is invested in his trio which released its debut EP entitled One that’s on all streaming services and for sale on his website. His experience working with admired musicians from many different traditions has made him an interactive\, and versatile musician who is finding his distinct musical voice. \n​Macklin returned to Chicago after two years of performing full-time in Nashville\, TN. Macklin declared that spending his time on creative and improvised music is what he wants to accomplish. Macklin’s goal is to create a band that goes above and beyond genres to connect with the audience personally and to have a compelling experience that leaves the listener wanting more.

FUN drummer and onetime R&B Cadets saxophonist (living now in Chicago) ventures to places explored by jazz avant-gardists such as Archie Schepp and Max Roach in a relentless sonic assault. \nTheir new album\, Carnival of Souls\, was recorded at Milwaukee’s DV Studio with Zick’s partner in MRS. FUN\, Connie Grauer\, producing. Carnival of Souls includes nine live improvisations by Zick and Wood plus renditions of three Grauer compositions\, including “Judy\,” “Cecil’s Waterfowl Ranch” and the melodically gorgeous “Zoila\,” which suggests something Henry Mancini might have written for a film that audiences never saw.

Outside of the Army Band\, he was deeply involved in the DC jazz\nscene\, where he played with the finest musicians in the area\, including Lena Seikaly\, Tommy Cecil\, Chuck\nRedd\, Paul Pieper\, Tedd Baker\, Lyle Link\, Kenny Rittenhouse\, Kris Funn\, Elijah Jamal Balbed\, Donvonte\nMcCoy\, Victor Provost\, Mark Prince\, Zack Pride\, Tom Baldwin\, Paul Langosch\, The Bohemian Caverns\nJazz Orchestra\, and others. DESCRIPTION:Since 2003 Sam Robinson has played in Chicago venues such as Andy’s Jazz Club\, The Green Mill\, The Jazz Showcase\, and many others.  He was also a member of the Chicago-based Shelley Yoelin Jazz Workshop Septet and has been a repeated guest soloist at the Serbian Village jazz club.  He currently leads the Sam Robinson Quartet.  In 2019\, he released his debut album\, “Sweet Love of Mine\,” his second album\, “Be With Me: Live at the Eastgate Cafe\,” in 2022\, and his third album\, “Third Time’s a Charm\,” in 2023. \nAccording to Chicago Jazz Magazine\, Robinson plays\, at times\, with “elegant restraint and muted tones\,” and at other times with “an intelligent extemporization that has a burnished sound and simmering passion.”
